This (past) year Adobe showed off a very complete looking sneak that took most people by surprise, “Adobe Rome”. This very ambitious project written in 20k (orignally I typed 200k, typo, thank you Jon for that find) lines of code works on both the web and desktop via Adobe AIR and is written completely using the Flex framework. Previously many people in the community had criticized Adobe for delivering a lackluster photo-editing application with Photoshop Express, especially compared to some other competitors that were also using Adobe Flex to produce much more impressive online tools. However this application seems to blow the rest of the online photo-editing applications away.

The English verb to chaperone comes from the French noun ‘chaperon’ - protector - and it is first recorded in Jane Austen’s novel Sense And Sensibility, published in 1811.

Then, the reputation of a young woman was considered so precious that she was protected at all times if in male company by the presence of another woman: a chaperone.

Since the late 1970s, when Richard Prince became known as a pioneer of appropriation art — photographing other photographs, usually from magazine ads, then enlarging and exhibiting them in galleries — the question has always hovered just outside the frames: What do the photographers who took the original pictures think of these pictures of their pictures, apotheosized into art but without their names anywhere in sight?

Most well known for his “Obey Giant” street posters, Shepard Fairey has carefully nurtured a reputation as a heroic guerilla street artist waging a one man campaign against the corporate powers-that-be. Infantile posturing aside, Fairey’s art is problematic for another, more troubling reason - that of plagiarism.
